St Helena at ICC Annual Conference

……and so the journey begins…St Helena is off to the ICC Annual Conference. This year the conference is in Durban South Africa from the 10th to the 14th of July…flights from St Helena for this period means that it was a tight schedule for Vice President Derek Richards, leaving St Helena on Sunday afternoon and arriving in OR Tambo on Sunday night to make a 6 am flight to Durban on Monday morning in order to join the Conference for it’s start at 10 am.

What does the Conference mean for St Helena ?…. The ICC invites the President or CEO or their deputy from each of its member nations to represent them in a series of seminars and workshops and then AGM of the ICC. This presents numerous opportunities for St Helena, where it is involved very closely with top decision-makers, has opportunities for “one-to-one” talks with our regional overseers which is Cricket South Africa and lends itself to much-needed networking with member countries.

One of the key areas that St Helena will concentrate on this year is to invite Cricket South Africa to make a visit to St Helena, to give them a clear view of the game on St Helena and seek their support in developing the sport on the Island.

What does the Conference cost St Helena….? Absolutely nothing. The ICC covers the cost of flights to and from the conference and the delegate is covering the cost of accommodation and other expenses.

On leaving St Helena yesterday Derek said he is looking forward to an interesting week with positive outcomes for St Helena Cricket.
