One player in particular Team St Helena and St Helena cricket fans are hoping will be on form when the tournament starts this week is our profile for today, Jordi Henry.
A right and left all-rounder, Jordi has excelled in much of his game over the years and is a reliable batsman and bowler to have in any format.
From St Pauls District in St Helena, Jordi is another of our players who started in the senior league at the age of 13. At that time he joined Jamestown Z, a team renowned for introducing young players to the senior league and captained by Dax Richards.
“it was great playing there,” said Jordi light-heartedly “but Dax made me run from one side of the field to the next, so after two years I gave it up and moved on.
It was from there that Jordi excelled as he joined Western B and in his first season was awarded the prestige of the Governors Bat, for the highest batting average for the season, an achievement in a team that was not high scorers.
At the age of 18, Jordi pulled up his roots again and moved to join the new team Challengers, becoming one of the original members and where he became a significant part of the bowling and batting line-up.
In 2018, he made his International debut, when St Helena competed at the Regional Qualifiers in Botswana, narrowly missing out on a top-two finish. Jordi is here at the Qualifiers in Rwanda where he is hoping he can have an impact in a successful St Helena tournament.
St Helena will be cheering him on, along with his girlfriend Terri and kids Ronan and Rocco.
