Team St Helena faced their first encounter with the heat at the NCF Cricket Oval 1, as they held a short training session after lunch to brush up on skills and top up the fitness.

First day warm-up

Being a late session it had the effect of intense heat early on into the session and less intensity as the sun started setting.

Batting practise

Looking after us on our first day was Peter Oladuso. Peter who plays his local cricket for Cricket Club Abuja, has been assigned to the team for the duration of our visit and is looking forward to working with us.

The day started with a mini tour of the interesting parts of the city, before organizing the small bits they needed including Sim Cards and data.

After lunch the team headed of to the Oval for their first real form of exercise since their departure from St Helena.

Coach Nadeem said following the session ” it was clear that the team struggled a bit to find their feet and deal with the heat in a new environment, but they settled down towards the end of the session, making it very successful”

Skipper Cliff Richards said “it was good to get an experience of the heat and to get back on the field and we are feeling good about it”

Warming up

Training will intensify tomorrow with a 8.30 start for a few hours after which the team will have the rest of the day to themselves.
